Notes for first-time users

Hlabels.com has developed a Google Docs™ and Sheets™ extension (add-on) called "Label Sheets - Create, Mail Merge & Print Labels". You can find it in the Google Workspace Marketplace, by typing its name into the "Search apps" box.
This add-on lets you create label content individually or automatically using data from a spreadsheet (mail merge), then generate a PDF printout that you can send to any roll printer.

Google Docs™

To create labels in Google Docs™ and print them on label rolls of any brand or size, click the button above and follow the steps below.

  1. Click the blue "USE TEMPLATE" button in the top-right corner. Google Docs™ will open and automatically launch the Hlabels add-on, already set up to print on roll labels.
If you haven't used the add-on before, you'll be prompted to install it first.
  2. Enter your unit of measurement, the label width and height, carrier width, and gap. Learn more here.
  3. The add-on will replace and resize the default document with a single blank page sized exactly to one label.
  4. Fill in the content of the label. To add another label with different content, simply add a new document page. If you need to create dozens or hundreds of labels — like name tags or address labels — use the option to import data from a Google or Excel sheet.

Google Sheets™

If your label data is contained in the rows of a Google Sheet and the layout requires only basic text formatting, it is simpler to use the Hlabels add-on directly within Google Sheets™, rather than importing the data into a Google document. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Sheet where the data for your labels (hundreds, if needed) is stored.
  2. Go to the Extensions menu to launch the Hlabels add-on. If you haven't used it before, install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace first.
  3. Select the Rolls option, and enter your unit of measurement, the label width and height, carrier width, and gap. Learn more here.
  4. Press Continue, and a text area will appear, sized with the same width-to-height ratio as a single label.
  5. Place the cursor where you want the content of a column to appear, then click on that column's representative. Repeat for any other columns whose data should appear on the label. Be sure to choose a font size that allows the text to fit properly within the label space.

That's it!
The Hlabels add-on will automatically generate a print-ready PDF file containing all your label content.
You can either send it directly to your roll printer or download the file for later use.

Ensuring a precise printout

Make sure to either measure — or read from the label specifications — and then correctly enter the label width and height, carrier width, and gap in the Hlabels Google Docs™ and Sheets™ extension dialog.

If your label background isn't white and a thin white edge appears along one or more sides, select a bleed area between 1% and 5% to slightly enlarge your label design and eliminate the white edges.
