How to fill in the Layout Settings

If you already have your label design file(s) saved on your computer, you can upload them here, adjust the print layout settings to suit your needs, and we'll instantly generate a printout formatted for precise printing on this custom label template using any inkjet or laser printer.
This method is best suited for printing on label sheet products whose templates are not yet available on Hlabels.com or are non-standard.

These same settings apply whether you're uploading label design files from your computer (using the upload button above) or printing on custom label templates using the Hlabels.com Label Sheets App for Canva, the Adobe Express Add-on, or the Google Docs™ and Sheets™ Add-on.
Find more info about each setting below.

  • Paper Format
We support the two standard paper sizes used worldwide: Letter (8.5 × 11 inches) and A4 (210 × 297 mm). Please select the one you use.
  • Page orientation
If you want your label images to be inserted vertically (i.e., rotated -90 degrees) into each label, there's no need to rotate them manually before uploading. Just set this field to "Landscape", and the system will automatically rotate them and generate the label sheet printout accordingly.
  • Label Width
The width of a single label. If necessary, the system will reduce the size of the design image (both width and height) to ensure it fits within this width.
However, the system will never enlarge your image to the point where its resolution is reduced, as this could lead to pixelation or blurry printouts. Make sure your image file has sufficient resolution for the selected label size. For example, a 200×200 pixel image does not have enough resolution to fill a 4×4 inch label. At typical print resolutions, it would appear much smaller - around 1.3 inches square - and be centered on the label.
  • Label Height
The height of a single label. The same image quality considerations mentioned for label width also apply to label height.
In addition, the width-to-height ratio of the label should closely match that of the design image; otherwise, empty space may appear around the printed labels. For this reason, based on the label width (which you should enter first), the system automatically suggests a label height value for you.
  • Vertical Space
As shown in the illustration, "VS" refers to the vertical space between two neighboring labels.
If you already have the label sheets in hand, please measure and enter this distance as accurately as possible. Even small inaccuracies can add up across the sheet and cause noticeable misalignment in the printout.
  • Horizontal Space
As shown in the illustration, "HS" refers to the horizontal space between two neighboring labels.
If you already have the label sheets in hand, please measure and enter this distance as accurately as possible. Even small inaccuracies can add up across the sheet and cause noticeable misalignment in the printout.
  • Vertical Offset
Inkjet and laser printers are not always 100% precise when feeding paper vertically, which can result in labels being printed slightly higher or lower than their intended position on the sheet. This setting allows you to apply a vertical offset of 1 to 3 mm to compensate for misalignment caused by imperfect vertical feed.
In the illustration, this is shown by the measurement arrow marked with 'VO'.
  • Horizontal Offset
When the paper sheet sits a little to the left or right in the tray, labels can print off-center. This setting lets you apply a horizontal offset of 1 to 3 mm to correct the alignment.
In the illustration, this is shown by the measurement arrow marked with 'HO'.
  • Bleed area
When your label background isn't white, slight misalignments during printing can cause a thin white edge to appear along one or more sides. A simple and effective way to avoid this is to print the label image slightly larger than the label area, so the background extends beyond the label's actual edge. This method is called applying a bleed.
If you notice white edges, select a bleed area between 1% and 5%, depending on how much coverage you need.
  • Cutting guides
If the labels have no spaces between them and you intend to print them on plain paper and cut them out yourself, cross-shaped guides will appear at the corners of each label to help make cutting easier and more precise.
  • Labels to skip
This setting is useful if you are reusing a label sheet where you have already printed and peeled off a number of labels, and now want to print on the remaining ones - helping you avoid wasting the entire sheet.
  • Labels to print
The number of labels that will be printed depends on the value you set in this field, as well as the number of label images you upload. If the value you set here is smaller than the number of uploaded images, it will be ignored, and the printout will include at least one label for each uploaded image. If the first label sheet runs out of available labels, the remaining images will be printed on additional sheets (second, third, and so on).

Note that the same settings are also available when printing on custom label templates through our integrations with Canva, Adobe Express, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.
